Our Mission Statement:

The United Congregational Church, a welcoming community - bringing together city and suburb to worship God, develop our faith, and serve our neighbors near and far through social outreach.

United Congregational Church was settled in 1695, which makes this congregation older than the city of Bridgeport by 141 years; and older than the Constitution by 81 years. The third minister of this Church was Lyman Hall, who left Connecticut to become the Governor of Georgia and ultimately a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In the early years of this congregation, worship was held in a small meetinghouse on the Stratfield-Bridgeport town line. As time went on and congregations joined one with another, two churches formed United Congregational Church. In June of 1926 United moved to its current location here on the corner of State St. and Park Ave. On August 5, 2001, United Congregational Church joined the United Church of Christ. United has a rich history of community outreach and involvement as well as exceptional music programs for children and adults. United Congregational Church worships on Sunday mornings with a service of word and communion in Howland Chapel at 8:30 am; and a service with choirs at 10:00 am in the main Sanctuary. Our building is also home to four other Christian congregations who worship on Sundays as well.
